A Message From Calvary's Rector
Dear Friends and Siblings in Christ,
What a gift it is to serve with and among you here at Calvary! God’s blessings and love are made manifest to our community in so many ways, and it's because of your generosity and commitment. This year we celebrated our 170th birthday. For almost two centuries, the people who call “the little castle” on the corner of Ninth Street and Locust their worship home have been sharing in God’s labor and love, and have given generously of their time & treasure. Worship Our work in the world flows from our worship, whether it’s a Sunday service at 8 am or 10:30 am, the healing service on Wednesday evenings, or one of the special services offered around our community through Campus Ministry, at the Bluffs, Lenoir, or through our partnership with Journey Church in Fulton. Two choir ensembles share their gifts at Sunday services and through Evensongs and other special concerts throughout the year. A new Monday evening class has opened upthe gift of handbells to even more musicians. And dedicated tech ministers ensure that those who cannot be with us in person are able to connect with us through our livestream. The Altar Guild makes sure we have what we need to share the body and blood of Christ with those who come to Christ’s table seeking spiritual nourishment. Community Outreach We are an active part of the Columbia community & the Diocese of Missouri. We offer our piece of the PIE at Grant Elementary. We share food and hospitality freely by serving at Saturday Café during the summer months. It is a monthly practice at Calvary to support Loaves and Fishes and the Food Bank. And we continue to be present at PrideFest, an important reminder in difficult times that God’s love is offered freely to all, no exceptions. Fellowship & Discipleship Our Campus Ministry and Youth Group-ELCM & ELFY respectively-continue to thrive through our partnership with St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. We have weekly fellowship in the form of Coffee Hour (aka Episcopal Happy Hour), and there are opportunities to learn and grow in faith through Sunday Forums, Confirmation Class, Tuesday morning and Thursday evening Bible Studies, and the Bazaar-our annual all parish fundraiser. We continue to grow in grace, hope, and love. Sharing God’s Blessings God’s family is growing here at Calvary, and we are all invited to labor, love, and give in service to God as an expression of our thankfulness. We cannot do it without you. I hope you will prayerfully consider how you might share your time, talent, and treasure in support of our Church family. In Christ’s Love, Rev. Ann |
